Located south of the Republic of Colombia, bathed by the waters of the Putumayo, Caquetá and Apaporis Rivers and the majestic Amazon River.
Leticia is the capital of the department of Amazon, it is located in the south end of Colombia, it was founded as a river port on April 25th 1867. Despite of it being far away from the main urban centers of the country, without any communication by roadways, it constitutes an important commercial link with Brazil due to its city situation adjacent on the Amazon River and close to the tripartite landmark with Peru and Brazil. Bounded on the north with the departments of Caquetá, Vaupés and Putumayo; south and west with the Republic of Peru and east with the Republic of Brazil.
Currently it reunites 60% of the population of the department, the majority being Indians of diverse communities like the: Huitotos, Ingas, Tucanos, Tikunas and Nukakus. The city has a big demographic growth and technically it forms one city with the Brazilian municipality of Tabatinga.
The urban infrastructure allows tourists to have basic and necessary services to develop daily activities around the city.
